I strive to create unique and stylish functional craft by drawing upon my art and design background. My recent direction involves combining acrylic paint and handmade paper to detail the surface of the objects. I draw upon my painting background for mixing colours which allows a refinement in the colour scheme which I can implement to work with the existing wood surface colour, grain pattern and shape of the object.

"Designing and crafting objects to enhance the beauty and tranquility of everyday tasks" is Mike Sasaki's motto for fine craft.

Mike was born in Markham, Ontario and studied Design at York University and Sheridan College. Immersing himself in Japanese culture while living there for 5 years after graduating, he developed a keen appreciation for the Japanese arts tradition. With this strong Japanese influence, yet very much inspired by European and American modern art, Mike finds his place in the world as a Human Artist — working from a general metaphysical background, with a basis in inquiring into Truth, Love and timeless presence. When designing objects, not only the utility and aesthetics are cared for, but also the motion of the user, the interacting objects and furniture, and the sound and feel of the act.
